Computer Hardware Tip

USB Port Defined.

USB, or Universal Serial Bus, is a hardware bus standard that allows users to plug a peripheral device into a USB port and have it automatically configured and ready to use. If your computer is manufactured after 1995, it most probably has a couple of USB ports.

The USB port replaces all the different kinds of serial and parallel port connectors with one standardized plug and port connection. You never need to open your PC and add another plug-in card.
Another nice feature of the USB, is that you do not need to shut down and restart your computer to plug in a USB device. If you do not have enough USB ports for your USB devices, a single USB port allows you to connect a USB hub for the additional devices.

See "How USB Ports Work" for a more detailed explanation.
