Health Tips

Candida Related Complex.

Candida Albicans is a yeast which exists in small amounts in our intestinal tract. It is responsible for yeast infections, most jock itch, athlete's foot, and thrush. Normally, a healthy balance of yeast and "friendly" bacteria live in our intestinal tract. It is when there is an overgrowth of Candida that we begin to experience an illness manifested by numerous symptoms. Not all symptoms are experienced by everyone, making it difficult to diagnose. Furthermore, some symptoms will vary from mild to severe or may go away for awhile and then return. The most common symptoms are; yeast infections, fungus, indigestion, joint pain, fatigue, muscle weakness, depression, anxiety, chemical sensitivities, hypoglycemia, and brain fog.

Books on the subject and Internet sites suspect broad-spectrum antibiotics as the cause. This would make sense for me and my daughter who suffer from this condition. I was often prescribed antibiotics for allergies and my daughter was on antibiotics for about two years for respiratory illnesses. Eliminating sugar, alcohol, vinegar, and foods which one is allergic or intolerant will help recovery from Candida. Supplements which have helped us are; Primadophilus, multi-vitamin, at least 500 mg vitamin "C" daily, zinc, chromium picolinate, Kyolic, Mesosilver. Primadophilus is a probiotic in an enteric capsule. We have tried several and this one gave us the best results.

It is easy for your doctor, friends, and relatives to suspect that you are a hypochondriac. This contributes to your depression and soon you feel isolated. Relatives start thinking that it is all in your head since doctors can't find the solution. My family doctor gave me tranquilizers, my psychologist sent me to a psychiatrist who never did respond to me after the appointment, an endocrinologist only said that I didn't have leukemia. I was on my own and searched for a year trying various vitamins and supplements. I was down to very few foods; chicken, rice, water, and a few vegetables. Birthday parties were a killer, no cake or ice cream, and no eating out at restaurants. Water could only be flavored with lemon juice. Gradually I began finding answers. Diet, vitamins and supplements keep the condition under control. The best book on the subject is "Candida Related Complex: What Your Doctor Might Be Missing", by Christine Winderlin with Keith Sehnert, MD.
