Software Tips

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is a software suite that consists of several applications that perform different activities. Most home users do not need this expensive software for their home needs. If you need Microsoft Office for work or school, then there are several editions that are explained on the Microsoft website. I found the Home and Student Edition at Vio Software website for $120. Also review my software buying guide before making a purchase. The following are short descriptions of the Microsoft applications:
  • Microsoft Word: Microsoft Word provides powerful tools for creating and sharing professional word processing documents. Most users think Word is only for typing letters but it can do much more. It has tools for creating colorful and attractive flyers, brochures, business cards, labels, newsletters, web pages and more.

  • Microsoft Excel: Microsoft Excel can create detailed spreadsheets for accounting related projects. Excel can be used for budgets, tracking investments, projections for retirement needs, and any other application needing number tabulations. Excel's tools allow you to easily create graphs and charts.

  • Microsoft Outlook: Microsoft Outlook provides an integrated solution for managing and organizing e-mail messages, schedules, tasks, notes, contacts, and other information. This email client works well when you are managing several email accounts. It also has built in spam filtering.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint: Microsoft PowerPoint provides a complete set of tools for creating powerful presentations. Organize and format your material easily, illustrate your points with your own images or clip art, and keep your audience's attention with great transition effects.

  • Microsoft Access: Microsoft Access gives you powerful tools for managing your databases. Find and retrieve information quickly, and take advantage of automated, pre-packaged wizards and solutions to quickly create databases.

  • Microsoft Publisher: Microsoft Publisher helps you easily create, customize, and publish materials such as newsletters, brochures, flyers, catalogs, and Web sites. Publish easily on your desktop printer.
